Hialeah Hospital: 2017 Year in Review

Feb 17, 2020

This year Hialeah Hospital kicked off the year with the opening of the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit that offers comprehensive psychiatric inpatient services for adults and specializes in the treatment of individuals with emotional disturbances, including depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety. The unit admits patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has 12 beds. The Behavioral Unit was also designated as a Baker Act receiving facility.

In March Hialeah Hospital celebrated National Doctors' Day. This was to celebrate and recognize the contributions the physicians had made to the patients that are taken care of. The hospital chef cooked a delicious lunch and the administrative staff thanked all the physicians personally for their dedication in taking care of the members of the community we serve.

Hialeah Hospital partnered with the City of Hialeah Police's Rapid Response and SWAT Team for the third year to host the Active Shooter training exercise. We did this because we care for the safety and wellbeing of all our patients. We participated in a full exercise preparing for a possible emergency. We were also one of three hospital in Miami Dade the participated with Miami Dade Aviation Department and Miami Dade Fire Rescue, and the Miami Dade Police Department in a full scale exercise to test and evaluate Miami International Airport's emergency plan and its ability to respond to a major incident.

During the summer Hialeah Hospital earned the Get with the Guidelines8-Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation's secondary prevention guidelines for patients with heart failure. Hialeah Hospital earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure patients. These measures include evaluation of the patient, proper use of medications and aggressive risk-reduction therapies, such as ACE inhibitors/ARBs. betablockers, diuretics, anticoagulants, and other appropriate therapies.

In October, Hialeah Hospital partnered with the City of Hialeah Fire Fighters to create awareness for the Breast Cancer. The Hialeah pink fire rescue truck came to the hospital to engage the community and educate them on the importance of having a mammogram. Staff held a bake sale and raised money for the American Cancer Society.

As 2017 comes to an end, the hospital has its sights set on 2018 and is working towards continuing to take care of the community.
