MIAMI, Fla. – Hialeah Hospital is one of six Tenet Healthcare Corp.’s (NYSE: THC) South Florida hospitals which recently wrapped up a campaign to collect food and clothing for the people of Haiti, ravaged by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. North Shore Medical Center in Miami spearheaded the drive as many of it doctors and patients have direct ties to the impoverished island. Other hospitals that participated were Coral Gables Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital in Miami-Dade; Florida Medical Center in Broward County; and West Boca Medical Center in Palm Beach County.
For a two weeks, each hospital collected clothing and non-perishable food items—such as soup, powdered milk, rice and beans---from the public and from employees. North Shore Medical Center transported the supplies, consolidated into one 26-foot truck and delivered to St. James Catholic Church and Notre Dame Catholic Church. The goods will be distributed to Haiti through the Archdiocese of Miami and Food for the Poor. North Shore’s medical staff members also contributed approximately $2,000 in monetary donations. The hospitals collectively took in several thousand pounds of relief supplies.
