HIALEAH, FL  -- Hialeah Hospital, a 360-bed acute care hospital within Tenet’s Miami/Dade hospital network, has recently welcomed Dr. Roger Pons, MD, FACS, FASCRS, to its Medical Staff.

Dr. Pons will be performing Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) or minimally invasive procedures for the removal of rectal tumors and early stages of rectal cancers at Hialeah Hospital.

The TEM procedures offer patients a minimally invasive option with no abdominal incisions, less pain and shorter hospital stays.

Most recently, Dr. Pons was an attending surgeon at the United Hospital Center in West Virginia, where he was one of only two board certified colon and rectal surgeons in the state.  Prior to his work in West Virginia, Dr. Pons was a general surgery resident at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Ponce Regional Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico and at the Good Samaritan Hospital, also in Cincinnati, before accepting the position of attending surgeon at Broward Surgical Associates in Plantation, Florida.

Additionally, Dr Pons is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).  He is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Pons received his M.D. from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

“We’re pleased to have Dr. Pons joining our surgical team at Hialeah Hospital,” said Ralph Aleman, CEO.  “We strive to continue to attract outstanding talent such as Dr. Pons to Hialeah Hospital and our community.”
