Lourdes Camps, chief nursing officer at Hialeah Hospital, announced the appointment of Sherrill Sorensen as director of maternal-child services.

She is responsible for overseeing all labor and delivery operations, including the obstetrics and gynecology department, the level II neonatal intensive care unit and the newborn nursery.

Prior to joining Hialeah Hospital, Sorensen served as director of nursing for Keiser Career College, where she developed the practical and registered nursing curriculum.  Previously, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse for Memorial Hospital West and Plantation General Hospital. Sorensen has also served as an expert nurse witness and legal consultant, and a research nurse at St. Peter's University Medical Center where she was responsible for design and coordination of clinical research studies.

"Sherrill's impressive nursing experience in labor and delivery, as well as her knowledge of health law and medical research, make her a great addition to Hialeah Hospital," said Camps.  "We're thrilled to welcome someone of her stature to our hospital."

Sorensen earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix in 2004 and a Master's in Health Law from Nova Southeastern University in 2006.  She is affiliated with the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
