DORINDA SEGOVIA OF HIALEAH HOSPITAL RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS HONOR

HIALEAH, Fla. – Hialeah Hospital’s Administrative Director of Pharmacy, Dorinda Segovia, Pharm. D., was recently decorated with the Ambassador Award for consistently acting as a “goodwill ambassador,” within the hospital and throughout the community.

Segovia is the first recipient of the award, which the hospital will continue to present annually to an employee who goes beyond the call of duty to represent Hialeah Hospital in a positive light.

“We are pleased to present the Ambassador Award to Dorinda,” said Grisel Fernandez-Bravo, chief nursing officer at Hialeah Hospital.  “She is very involved in educating the community about her profession and promoting the good work of Hialeah Hospital.”

Segovia is associated with numerous professional pharmacy groups.  At a corporate level, she represents all the Directors of Pharmacy for Florida’s Tenet hospitals in the Pharmacy Advisory Committee (PAC).  The committee provides feedback and assists the company in making resolutions on pharmacy-related issues.  She also is an active member of the Florida Pharmacy Association and of the Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacy.

Segovia, a second year member of the governor appointed State Medicaid Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, is part of a team of experts that review medications that will best benefit Medicaid patients and will make the best use of state money.  Since 1993, she has worked as an assistant instructor of pharmacy practice at Nova Southeastern University in North Miami Beach.  Annually, she works with at least 24 pharmacy students by taking them under her wing to teach them tactical pharmacy.

For the past four years, Segovia has visited area schools to promote the pharmacy profession to students on career days and she also makes special school visits to teach kids how to use medications safely.

In 1992, she graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy from Nova Southeastern University of Health Sciences in North Miami Beach.  She resides in Hialeah and has been married to Eduardo Segovia for 15 years.  They have three daughters:  Alexandria, 9; Gabriella, 7; and Victoria, 5.

The hospital, located at 651 East 25 Street in Hialeah, offers a wide array of medical programs, most notably the Weight Loss Surgery Program, Sleep Disorders Program, the Endovascular Center of Miami-Dade and the Motherhood Center.

Tenet South Florida hospitals are Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Coral Gables Hospital, Delray Medical Center, Florida Medical Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Hialeah Hospital, Hollywood Medical Center, North Ridge Medical Center, North Shore Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palmetto General Hospital, Parkway Regional Medical Center, Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center.  Tenet South Florida can be found on the World Wide Web at www.tenetsouthflorida.com.
